This stay in Lyon was organized for an association of former students of a large engineering school in order to discover the city of Lyon under the themes of culture and gastronomy.
Staying in Lyon for 3 days, our client wanted to get a friendly stay rich in discovery for his guests, who were discovering Lyon for the first time. So, we made them a package mixing historical visits, meeting with local crafts manufacturers, tastings, and traditional meals. We wanted them to discover the “art de vivre lyonnais” right up to the choice of accommodation.
Discovery tour of Lyon:
Of course, they visited the emblematic places and monuments of Lyon, beginning with the hill of Fourvière, known for its Gallo-Roman ruins, with the oldest ancient theatre of France. Thanks to their guide, our clients learned many historical facts and anecdotes about Lugdunum, the capital of Gaul. What to feel Romans a few moments!
The visit continued with the beautiful Basilica Notre Dame de Fourvière, a few steps from the Gallo-Roman theatre, offering a wonderful view of Lyon. Inside, many anecdotes about its construction were told to our group of engineers.
It was unthinkable for us to welcome a groupe, who came to Lyon for the first time, without making them visit the historic center of the Vieux Lyon, a UNESCO world heritage site.
Come on, our participants are now silk buyers who want to understand the life of lyon inhabitants! Why there is traffic jams here? But who are those gônes running around in the traboules? What to learn in anecdotes the characteristics of Lyon…
Between Croix Rousse and his faithful Canuts, all devoted to working like convicts on looms dear to Jacquard (the inventor), the group went down the slopes to flirt with the Lyonnais walls, current pride of our School of Creation, and conducive to friendly group photography!
Then, we arrived in the peninsula, between Saône and Rhône, and their eyes sparkled in front of the must-see places and monuments, the architecture of the Opera, and the energetic atmosphere of the heart of Lyon… which leads straight to the Confluence, this former bad neighborhood, now a reference of style and architecture, with its modern post Museum of the Confluences, what a sight!
Of course, we adapted our program to our clients of engineers so we turned all of the stay around the architecture, history and creations.
Lyon gastronomy:
On gastronomy side, we have selected in our secretly guarded address book, bouchons and places where mâchons and Lyon specialties are on the menu! And no! There isn’t only cochonailles in Lyon! Among these addresses institutions of French cuisine such as the Brasserie Georges or the Halles Paul Bocuse that have improvised market tasting for the occasion, or even beautiful addresses of contemporary breweries…

Laurent welcomed the participants at their arrival to give them the logbooks. The evening, he also waited for them at the hotel to meet the group and listen to their first impressions. A habit at Excelys Tours, but an attention that was noticed and thanked by customers.
To make their travel easier, we entrusted coach transfers to one of our outstanding drivers, but they could not escape the metro, otherwise, the Lyon experience could not have been complete!
Three intense days which gave the opportunity to fully discover the city of Lyon! By appealing to all their senses, the participants were able to live a memorable experience, as Lyon inhabitants!
How did they live their stay?
Divided into small groups, particularly appreciated being able to exchange with the guides and discover the monuments in a more pleasant way. The guides were very nice to our clients and warm, allowing to live good moments, in relaxation and good humor. The combination of cultural visits and gastronomic discoveries has not left our customers indifferent. Indeed, they were able to discover the territory in all its aspects: culinary, historical, cultural and architectural. A stay rich in discovery and a good mood!
